Hawaii Tourism Vist to USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend your time in a submarine? If you have then you will certainly want to make the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park part of your Hawaii tourism plans. This memorial to honor the 52 lost submarines, their officers and enlisted men that were lost in battle during WWII. The visit will show you many sides of being a sailor on one of these submarines, their lives and their hopes.
You will also be able to see the Japanese human torpedo used during the war. This missile like torpedo had no door to exit, once the person was inside it was known that they would not return. There were nearly 400 of the Type 1′s were built and were the only type used operationally. These were carried piggyback aboard a mother submarine and some may have been aboard a few surface ships. In the Japanese human torpedo program, eight mother submarines and almost 900 lives were lost.
The 10,000 square foot Museum is filled with the collections of submarine-related artifacts. There are submarine weapons systems for you to see, photographs, paintings, battle flags and more. You will be able to see the original recruiting posters and see the detailed submarine models. There is even a Poseidon C-3 missile for you to see. It is the only one of its kind on public display.
