Boating is a big industry in this country and boats range from sailboats to fishing boats to leisure boats. One thing that every boat owner has in common is that they take care of their boats the same way most people take care of their cars. As with car care, boat care is a big business industry all its own.

Everyone wants their boat to look new and shiny all of the time. Boat care can be as simple as washing and waxing the boat to filling in minor cracks and scrapes. Boat care is just as important as knowing how to run the boat. If proper boat care and maintenance is not maintained, the boat could fall into disrepair which could prove disastrous if you are stuck in the middle of the ocean. There are a variety of boat care cleaners and waxes available in today?s market.

It is important to choose the right cleaner for your type of boat and storage. Saltwater boats and freshwater boats often require different kinds of cleaning to ensure the longevity of the boat. It is also proper boat care to wash and wax your boat thoroughly before putting it into storage. This will enable your boat to be more easily ready for use when the time is right to take the boat out again.

Boat Care Products

There are a wide variety of cleaning products for the boat and it is up to the consumer to do the research and decide which products are best for their particular boat. Finding a good soap is the first priority in boat care. A good soap will clean every surface inside and out and will not remove any protective wax coating, but it will remove any stubborn dirt residue from the boat.

Spray cleaner is the next must have in boat care and should always be kept on hand. This cleaner will remove any stains that appear on the surface of the boat such as bird droppings, fish blood or just good old fashioned grease. Leaving those filthy remains on the boat could damage your boat in the long run. Another must have for proper boat care is a good finishing wax. The wax not only restores the boat?s shine and color, but the wax also helps to protect the boat from the elements.

Saltwater boats can experience build up and corrosion of their paint. Freshwater boats experience mold from the algae and slime found in lake water. These are just a few of the products needed for proper boat care. A good rule of thumb is to always research which products are right for your particular boat.

One of the first things you will need to think about when you buy a boat will be boat docks to keep your craft safe and secure when you are not in it on the water. Whether it is a space for the day between trips out onto the lake, or some place to tie it up for the entire season, there are a few things to look at when it comes to renting, or building boat docks for your vessel.

The main thing will be the height of available boat docks to make sure you can get in and out of the boat with ease while insuring that any bumpers you may hang from the boat will hit the side of the dock. If the dock is too high, the top of the boat can be damaged if it rocks into the underside of the top of the dock and if it?s too low, the bumpers may ride over the top of the dock, allowing the hull to slam against the boat docks.

Some owners believe that floating boat docks are the best as they ride the waves just like boat will during a storm or from the wake of a passing boat. Most floating docks are nothing more than empty barrels, sealed to hold air, fastened together with lumber on which to walk.

Verify Security For Overnight Stays

If looking for boat docks at which to lash your boat over night or during an entire season, be sure the facility is properly secured against theft as well as insured against damage by an errant boat slamming into the boats tied up at the dock. Some boat insurance will cover theft from a dock or boat damage incurred while parked there, but many other companies believe it is the responsibility of the dock to care of any damages.

Your boat should also be equipped with cleats on the upper ridge with which to tie up to any boat docks you may stop at, helping keep it secure against the dock. While a rope tied to the bow may keep it from floating away while it in dock, being able to tie the front and back to the dock, will make it easier to board the craft later. It can also prevent the boat from floating into the path of other boats that may be passing close by the dock.

The water depth near the boat docks should also be adequate to allow the motor to be used to dock the boat as well is getting out onto the water without having to use the oars. You also so not want any large rocks on the bottom near boat docks to damage the underside of your boat.

There are many boats today that are propelled by motor and which have boat motor parts that can either drive a small boat, or even the luxury liners, and most boat owners actually prefer boats that are powered by motors over those that use wind force such as sailboats.

So, if you own a boat that is powered by a motor, it will pay for you to learn all about the various boat motor parts since such knowledge will prove very useful in case something were to go wrong. Being able to recognize problems can help you avert physical as well as financial risks.

Engine, Propeller And Drive System

There are three main boat motor parts that you will need to be aware of, and each of these must always is properly functioning to ensure pleasure in boating and also to keep you safe while on board the boat. In the event that any of these boat motor parts including the engine, propeller as well as drive system were to fail, you would lose power and be at the mercy of nature. As for the drive system, your boat could use one that is either inboard, outboard or a combination of both, which is often known as stern drive, and it is this drive system that will transfer engine power to the water and hence provides the boat with thrust.

As for the other boat motor parts that is the engine, it can be compared to what goes into a heavy duty truck, and for proper functioning of a gasoline driven engine, you should ensure that the engine has good ventilation so that there is minimal risk of fire, or other explosion. However, you may want to choose diesel engines that are better than gasoline driven ones and most of the bigger ships as well as commercial ships opt for diesel engines since they afford cleaner burning and generally do not tend to explode, though you have to pay more for them initially.

The third component of boat motor parts is the boat?s propeller, which until recently, was quite a mystery as far choosing the best propeller was concerned; though, now-a-days it is not so difficult to choose one, but you should still consult with a professional to get the best advice and hence the most suitable propeller for your boat.

Before you consider the merits and demerits of these boat motor parts, you would do well to be totally familiar with them because then you could combine them well to get a smoother running boat, and for this consulting experts is a good course of action.

Sales in the boat industry have spiked dramatically over the past few years, and it is really no wonder why. There is nothing more enjoyable and relaxing than cruising out on the great big sea on your own boat with your family and friends.

If you are one of the many boat lovers out there, then at some point or another you most likely are going to need to find boat parts. There are many different options that you have in this regards, when it comes to companies, but a few in particular which are especially worthwhile, and of which will be discussed here.

Marine Parts Source

The Marine Parts Source Company is a great option for boat parts. They are a privately owned and operated company, one that is currently supplying the marine parts aftermarket around the world. They are constantly continuing to add new and innovative boat parts and related products to their inventory, and always at the most competitive prices.

Precision Props

This is another great option that you have for boat parts. They are a company that was established in 1971 as a small business, and which over that time has worked incredibly hard and been incredibly dedicated to their work in order to become the industry leader that they are today.

They sell and also repair all types of aluminum, stainless and bronze boat parts, including propellers, skegs and cavitation plates, batteries, awnings, boat covers, life jacket, water sports equipment and much more.

Buying Used

Both of the previously mentioned options only offer new unused parts, but you do always have the option of buying used. There are a number of different fantastic vendors out there that you can go to for this, such as eBay, for example, who has a great reputation and is well known all over the world.

There are a few things that you are going to only have to worry about if you decide to buy used however, such as the fact that you want to be sure of the quality and condition of the parts before paying for them, and this usually means handling or at least seeing them in person.

If you are not able to test them out before buying, for instance if you are shopping online, then you will want to be sure to get a certified warranty or similar means that you can use if after you receive the parts you find them unusable.

Anyone who lives near water knows that having a boat is a must have in today?s world. But how does the boat actually run? In order for the boat to move forward it must have a boat propeller. This may sound like a simple part for the boat to have, but in fact, choosing the right boat propeller can influence how the boat runs, how fast it goes and how often the boat is serviced. There are many factors involved in choosing the right propeller and there are many guides to ensure you choose the correct boat propeller for your boat. Many of these guides can be found on the internet to help in your search.

Choosing And Testing

The most common type of propeller is the aluminum boat propeller. This type of propeller is the most durable and can be used on almost any boat. The strongest boat propellers are stainless steel and have a longer life spa because of their stiffer blades. For emergency situations, plastic and composite boat propellers are generally used. It is always best to have a variety of propellers to choose from and they need to be tested before being purchased.

Be sure to have a tachometer that will take an accurate reading of the RPM?s. This is important because you do not want the RPM?s to run too high for the sake of the engine. Make sure that the speedometer is working properly and that it will take an accurate measure of the boat?s speed. The boat load, engine height, trim angle and water conditions should be the same every time a boat propeller is tested in order to insure accurate results from the same set of conditions.

Maintenance

Once you have chosen a boat propeller it is important to always check it for damages. If any of the blades are bent or there are nicks in the blades, the propeller could cause vibrations, which is harmful to the engine and ultimately results in the boat not performing satisfactorily. Always keep the boat propellers clean; accumulation of the dirt and slime that grows in fresh water can damage the propellers and slow the performance of the boat.

It is always recommended to clean not only your boat regularly, but also to clean the propellers. Good boat and propeller maintenance will not only extend the look and life of your boat, but will enhance your boat?s performance. This only supports the importance of keeping your boat clean and choosing the right propeller for your boat.

There are very few boats that will not require boat repair done to them, and if you want your boat to be shipshape and in good as well as safe working condition, it is something that should be done the moment a fault are detected. After all, you don?t want to go out sailing and find out later in the middle of the high seas that you need to make boat repair to the boat, which is not only very frustrating, but also very dangerous as well. A good sailor will always ensure that his boat is in perfect working order and will perform boat repair as and when necessary, which will help to make the experience of being a boat owner that much more pleasurable.

Damage To Hull

Among the common boat repair that you may need to perform is when the hull becomes damaged which may occur when a sudden grounding takes place, or the boat collides with something, or even because the wooden hull has rotted away. Thus, in case of anything going wrong with the hull, you should undertake boat repair at the very earliest to ensure safety of the boat and its occupants.

Another thing that requires boat repair is damage to the rig, which is something that can be accomplished in a straightforward manner and all it may require is to order replacement parts and making the necessary replacements. In case the boat repair requires replacement for the line makes sure to use the correct material such as pre-stretched polyester, polyester, polypropylene, or Spectra, and that it is of correct length as also diameter. However, if you need to repair the standing rigging, then this is best done by a professional and getting professional advice in any case is also a good idea.

Boat repair can also be required to repair sails that is something that is often quite tricky and it may also best is performed by a professional though it may depend on the extent of damage. Minor damages such as minute tears as well as punctures can however be performed by a non-professional as it may only require attaching self-adhesive patches.

Finally, boat repair may even require that the trailer is repaired because wheel bearings as well as lights may break down and these should be checked regularly. In addition, you should also check the tire pressure and ensure that they are properly inflated and also check your tires to see whether there are any worn out treads and whether the sidewalls are cracked.

With these simple boat repair guidelines in mind, you should be able to keep your boat shipshape and thus enjoy safer boating.
