People are no longer quick to discount Antarctica as a perfect travel destination since it has so much to offer in terms of memorable experiences. From the exotic wildlife to the moving sceneries an Antarctica cruise is an adventure of a lifetime. Read on to find out what activities are available aboard an Antarctica cruise and decide whether you would like this vacation place.

Antarctica is home to vast icy navy blue seascapes not found anywhere else on earth. Active wild animals are not scared of humans and soaring icebergs can be seen everywhere. Stunning sunsets can be witnessed in the spring in Antarctica while the summer months have the sun beating down on the continent all hours of the day. An Antarctica cruise lets people in on a ton of activities they can do on top of the usual Antarctica touring. antarctica cruises

An Antarctica cruise usually offers the popular pastime of wildlife observation. With wild animals all over the place you have the choice of observing creatures like whales in the comfort of the ship deck or exploring the land to get a better look at other wildlife including penguins. Orcas along with Humpback and Minke whales frequent this area so do not be alarmed if you encounter during your cruise. Antarctica is surrounded by blue freezing waters that are made more amazing by the sight of such lovely animals.

Antarctica is home to various seal types which you will likely encounter once you go traveling on land. Some of the varieties include Leopard, Weddell and Crabeater seals. February to March is the time seals really come out as this is when there are many chicks or baby penguins to feast on. Spring is also a fun time to catch glimpses of playful penguin chicks and large Orca whales. Penguin chicks begin hatching at the same time more whales show up which is before springtime sets in so you might want to visit the place months earlier if you want to see these happen.

Your days aboard an Antarctica cruise will be filled with all sorts of activities from watching wildlife to enjoying the scenery so it definitely is not a waste of money. Many cruise ships allow passengers a few nights on land to camp out as part of the tour to get a better feel of the scraggy terrain. Keep in mind that this isn’t exactly camping in your backyard. You will have a better time on the excursion if you came prepared for all sorts of weather conditions that could occur. People brave enough to try Antarctic camping can look forward to an extraordinary adventure. antarctica cruise ships

An Antarctica cruise usually comes with a chance to look at wild animals and various scenery closely by coming down from the large ship and riding a smaller one for easier traveling. Other favorite activities aboard these cruise vacations are canoeing and kayaking. Groups of kayakers are generally accompanied by guides who assess the freezing waters and environment. Smaller vessels run by ship personnel are likewise provided to take passengers like you to the shore for a closer look at whales.

People can also engage in Antarctica scuba diving to acquaint themselves with what the continent holds underneath its cold surface. It is as easy to dive in other areas as it is here. Expert divers can go exploring Antarctica waters because they are used to the weight of the equipment and know how to use them while underwater. Get certified by enrolling in a dry suit dive course then put in the extra dive hours and you will be more ready to take on the challenges of the trip.

While the fun activities never stop in Antarctica there is also a lot of entertainment on board the ship. You have the choice of resting in fancy accommodations or visiting the fine dining room for a quick bite after a long day of exploring. Going on a cruise that is comfortable and still allows a person to get in on various amusing activities is what an Antarctica cruise is all about.

People quick to disregard Antarctica as a travel destination option change their opinion soon after visiting the place and experiencing its uniqueness. A host of adventures and wildlife as well as sights to take in while cruising Antarctica. Use the activity choices mentioned here to decide if Antarctica cruise vacations are suited to you. The most comprehensive information on antarctica cruise ship can be found on that website.

Antarctica boasts of a vast expanse of deep blue waters across the region. Wildlife roams freely without a care for humans watching them and icebergs are plentiful. Stunning sunsets can be witnessed in the spring in Antarctica while the summer months have the sun beating down on the continent all hours of the day. There are many activities aboard an Antarctica cruise that tourists can do besides sightseeing that will make the Antarctica trip all the more memorable.

The wildlife in the area can be readily observed while Antarctica cruise traveling. You have the option of watching penguins up close on land or observe whales nearby while on the deck of the ship the end result is the same you will not have a shortage of wildlife to look at. Orcas along with Humpback and Minke whales frequent this area so do not be alarmed if you encounter during your cruise. Antarctica icy waters become more fascinating with the addition of these wonderful creatures.

You may get a glimpse of several seals while on land that have made Antarctica their main home. Besides Crabeater there are Leopard and Weddell seals observed in this region. February to March is the time seals really come out as this is when there are many chicks or baby penguins to feast on. Springtime is likewise perfect for glimpsing huge Orcas and frolicking penguins. If you arrive there months earlier you might be able to watch the hatching of chick penguins and see more whales. If you want more comprehensive info on antarctica travel that site will help you.

With an Antarctica cruise you get all you paid for and then some since it includes wildlife observation and visiting unfamiliar territory along with other fun projects. Guests are allowed by some cruise lines to go set up camp briefly on land as a way to experience the rough terrain. Be warned though that you cannot compare this camping with the one you do behind the house. Have everything you need handy for the trip so you do not wind up unprepared for any and all climate shifts that could happen. Antarctic camping is for those who are up for a challenge and do not want to leave disappointed.

You can leave the Antarctica cruise ship and go on a smaller boat to explore more closely the wild animals and scenes unique to the area. This type of cruise likewise offers favored activities like canoeing as well as kayaking. Guides often come with kayakers and they are the ones who gauge the icy water conditions and overall surroundings. There are also smaller vessels piloted by ship staff to take you onto land and help you see the whales a whole lot better.

You can explore the deep Antarctica waters through scuba diving and get better acquainted with the aquatic life forms there too. It is as easy to dive in other areas as it is here. Only divers with enough experience are able to go diving in Antarctica because they can handle and know how to use the heavy gear involved. A way to be prepared for the activity is get certified via enrolment in a dry suit underwater swimming or diving course and put in the hours before a sail.

Even as there are plenty of ways to entertain yourself in Antarctica do not lose sight of the fact that you are still on a fun cruise ship vacation. You have fine dining plus accommodations to look forward to after a day of explorations. Antarctica cruise travel delivers a ton of activity choices while providing a comfortable cruise vacation.

A question often asked by visitors is which Anglesey beach would a local person recommend to make their stay on the island one to remember. There are in fact many outstanding beaches on this island in the Irish Sea off North Wales, boasting over 125 miles of exquisite coastline. And significantly many of them regularly win European Blue Flag and Resort Seaside Awards as well as Green Coast Beaches for water quality.

The most popular beaches of Anglesey are not necessarily the easiest to reach, yet the struggle to get there is well worth the effort. Take Llanddona beach on the east coast, a soft sandy expanse which sweeps in a north easterly arc and surrounded by high lush green hills and trees, yet the road is a narrow one and a challenge for the driver. A large quantity of silver coins was recently discovered on this beach, and more may be hidden, while there is a tale of the Witches of Llanddona which has fascinated people over the years.

Llanddwyn is an Anglesey beach situated on the south east corner of the island, approached through Newborough Forest, an impressive collection of conifers where some red squirrels still survive. When you reach the beach the vast expanse is breathtaking, whether you arrive here on a blustery winter day or in the heat of the mid summer sun. A nearby rocky island is home to an old white lighthouse and derelict church, where Demi Moore filmed scenes from her paranormal Half Light movie.

A visitor on an island beach may notice bright orange life rings placed at strategic points which are there to ensure that in an emergency someone in danger of drowning in the sea can be assisted. Anyone seeing a life ring damaged needs to call the local council immediately. Just think that in 2008, thirty eight people lost their lives off the island coast when in difficulty.

If you travel to the west of Anglesey at Church Bay there is an interesting Green flag beach, where the coastal path runs along high cliffs which surround this narrow cove popular with swimmers. Often you will see some kayaks gathering at the beach ready to begin a coastal exploration, or perhaps go further to the Skerries Rock lighthouse. On your way to Church Bay you will drive along a narrow country lane, decked with flowers, and on arrival you cant miss the Lobster Pot restaurant.

In the south west is Holy Island where you find the Port of Holyhead and two Blue Flag beaches at Porth Dafarch and Trearddur Bay. To celebrate the Millennium, a Celtic cross was erected in the marram grass at Trearddur. These two beach locations also have dog free zones operating between May and September, which is a facility asked for by a number of people.

Some thoughts about what to do and not to do when you are on an Anglesey beach: it is not advisable to go out to sea in an inflatable dinghy, especially if the wind is offshore. Eating a large meal before swimming is not a good idea, and remember beach wardens are on hand to answer your questions. Do drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids in hot, sunny weather to avoid dehydration, and dont leave pets in parked cars in hot weather.

Some folks look forward to leisurely walks along the coastal path, and watching beautiful sunsets, while others are keen to test their skills in various adventure sports like sailing, diving, coasteering, surfing and kayaking. For everyone, however, it is likely that you will always treasure something special about your time on an Anglesey beach.

Choose among a fine selection of Anglesey cottages to make the most of your break on this island off the North Wales coast, where you will discover a number of great places to visit.

Situated in the path of the Gulf Stream the island offers a pleasant, mild climate known for its sunshine and so an Anglesey cottage self-catering holiday is the ideal accompaniment to these natural advantages.

This green, pleasant island offers a wide range of traditional cottages which should cater for most visitors, whether you see yourself as a coastal path walker, a bird watcher or an active, adventure-seeking kayak or canoe enthusiast.

Here you can experience a stay in a coastal or rural location which is sympathetic to the local environment and culture, such is the versatility of the range of Anglesey cottages on offer.

Among the features of these properties will be a stone fireplace in the dining room and the lounge an sometimes a wood burning stove in the kitchen which will invariably have a tiled floor.

Expect to enjoy the benefits of double glazing in your Anglesey cottage along with the advantages of a central heating system.

Bedrooms can either by twin or single and some will be provided as en-suite, and depending on the number of people it can accommodate, the bedrooms can be both on ground and first floor.

Visitors can expect their cottage in Anglesey to provide the linen and duvets required as well as a TV facility and a room for washing clothes. A full kitchenware range is also included.

For those visitors attracted to an Anglesey holiday and wanting to bring pets, some cottages allow pets on the condition that they are kept under control.

Staying in a self-catering Anglesey cottage means you will have many choices of where exactly you want to get much needed peace and quiet from your busy schedule, it could be on the coast or maybe a more central island district.

Just imagine waking up early one morning, the sun is rising as you can sit in the garden, breathing in the sea air, appreciating the mountains of Snowdonia on the mainland, as the smell of freshly ground coffee drifts from the kitchen and you sip some fresh orange juice.

Perhaps if you like getting up early you could wake up to the natural alarm clock of the dawn chorus in the hedges next to your cottage, slip to the kitchen, make a quick brew and step outside and enjoy the steady sunrise over Snowdonia.

Staying in a traditional Anglesey cottage means you could cycle along quiet country lanes before breakfast, appreciating colourful wild flowers rioting down stone walls and the aroma of prolific wild garlic and herbal plants.

A number of island cottages are clustered around the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a designated zone which runs along most of the Anglesey coast.

Having your cottage here is a good idea if you love sea views, coastal walking and water sports. There are also some superb 18-hole golf courses nearby many holiday cottages.

For those of you who love the outdoors and walking specifically, remember to bring your boost as there is a recently opened 125-mile coastal path with breathtaking sea views.

Choosing a cottage on the south west Anglesey coast means you may enjoy a particularly beautiful sunset where you may be able to make out the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland on the distant horizon.

It can be such a pleasure to watch the slow descent of the sun over the horizon, while sharing a glass of wine in your cottage with family and friends.

When you reach Anglesey after crossing the Menai Strait you can cross the island using the A55 dual carriageway to Holyhead, from where a fast ferry runs to Dublin. At RAF Valley you can fly to Cardiff within one hour.

In winter your Anglesey holiday offers you peaceful walks along sandy beaches and the coastal path while the summer sun is so inviting to the adventure seekers, either way select Anglesey cottages offer you a good base to maximise your island experience.

If there is one thing to consider when buying your next sleeping bag, I say its all about temperature. Get the right range! If the forecast says its going to be warm during the day and then cool off overnight, find out how cold cool off really is, then buy the sleeping bag that is good to 20 degrees below that!

Two years ago, my husband and I decided to get a bigger boat (a common problem with boaters) and we found one in late October that was perfect. It was kept at a marina a few hours West of where we live, so we decided to bring it home by driving it down river, more cost effective than having it trailered. However, the boat had no heater.

It was time to get a new sleeping bag. So off to the Internet I raced. After checking 2 or 3 weather reports, I searched for info on sleeping bags that were good down to around 45F. Of course, I ended up with information overload – everything from synthetic versus down filled, to size & color & length & shape & blah blah blah.

Overloaded with information, I ended up choosing a pretty blue sleeping bag which matched the color of our new boat. It was made by Mountain Hardwear, was good to 50F and was in my price range. Too bad I didn’t look around a little more, I would have noticed other sleeping bags in the same price range which were good to lower temperatures.

But no, I went with color and completely regretted the decision that night. Arriving at the marina to pick up our boat in the early morning, the temperature was in the mid 60s and we enjoyed a lovely day cruise down river. We ended up on one of our favorite islands near Brockville, Ontario and had a nice meal just as the sun was setting.

Darkness came early and we knew we’d have an early start, so after a quick tour of the island to let our dog do his business, we made our beds in the aft cabin and were asleep by 10:00 p.m. A few hours after midnight, our dog woke me up and when my feet touched the floor, it felt like there was ice in the cabin!

I quickly ushered the dog into the cabin then dove back into my sleeping bag, but I swear my feet didn’t warm up all night – it was miserable. I didn’t even have the benefit of my husbands warmth, because he was all bound up in his own misery right next to me.

After a long and miserable sleep, we woke early and dressed quickly. We heard on the radio that the temperature had dropped to 25 degrees overnight! I discovered the hard way that there is nothing worse than being cold on a boat. And weather forecasts are often wrong! So, when buying your next sleeping bag, get one that says it works to temperatures 20 degrees lower than you think you might need – you won’t regret it!

Want to discover the beauty of exotic island locations such as Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, Florida, Bahamas, and Greece Sailing is a great way to discover the beauties of several locations such as the Caribbean, Hawaii, Bahamas, and many other archipelagos? There are a few ways you can sail away. You can hire a boat with no captain, crew, or cook. This is called a bareboat. On a bareboat the vacationers do all the cooking, rowing, and navigation. A better option is to hire a captain if you want to sail on a bareboat. That way you have good navigation and someone to provide you with local legend and lore.

There are many companies which provide sailing vacation packages. The most important component of a sailing vacation package is the boat, also known as the transport vehicle. The transport vehicle can be anything from a bareboat with a skipper, to a schooner, or yacht. A lot of it depends on the number of people sailing.

When a big group of people are going, it is a good idea to hire a catamaran. Catamarans have a motorized launch and can accommodate a large number of people. Other modes of transportation include trimarans, which is a more spacious and advanced version of a catamaran. Most ports also offer local transport like schooner, gullets, or caiquies. It all depends on where you go.

Sailing vacation packages come with a variety of amenities. Most packages offer food and drink at a minimum. Large catamarans may have a kitchen on board. Accessories for use during your sailing adventure may also be provided, such as binoculars, scuba and snorkeling equipment, live music, and even photography. Sailing adventures open to children often provide the kids with water toys.

Sailing vacation packages that include tie-ups with resorts are known as stay-sail vacations. Nighttime is spent in hotels, while sailing goes on during the day. Resort or hotels of a stay and stay vacation depend on the budget.

The number of days sailing, onboard amenities, and hotel accommodations are all factors in the price of sailing vacation packages. As always, quality and service affect price. Destination also plays a role in the price of any sailing vacation package.

On the other hand, there are plenty of companies that provide vacation packages for those who want to go sailing. The most important thing to consider on a sailing vacation package is the boat. You may end up on a bareboat with a skipper, or a huge yacht with other sailing vacationers.

If you want to go fishing on your vacation, you will never get disappointed in Cabo San Lucas. The place does not only take pride in having premiere hotels and beautiful sights but also an abundant catch of many types of Marlin like the Striped, the Black and the Blue Marlin. Because of this abundance, Cabo San Lucas was considered the “Marlin capital of the world.”

Marlin catch in Cabo is plentiful throughout the year, although the types of Marlin seem to vary according what time of year. The Blue and Black Marlins are abundant in summer and in fall, while the striped Marlin is abundant in winter. Other fishes are also available in Cabo such as the Tuna, the Dolphin-Fish or Mahi-mahi, and the Snapper, but they tend to be seasonal unlike the Marlins.

Cabo offers many fishing sites for your fishing adventures. This makes the area great because it allows you to have many choices where to go fishing. There are even fishing spots that are a few miles from the port of Cabo.

There is also a good site, a few miles from the old lighthouse and it is called the Tinaje Trough. This place is a cavernous underwater canyon on the Pacific section of the peninsula, various species of fish are found here.

Another good site to fish is a particular spot between the banks of Golden Gate and San Jaime, it is actually where a stream of water flow through and that is a superb place for fishing in Cabo San Lucas. These warm underwater currents hold a gargantuan of Blue Marlin, Yellowfin and Skipjack Tuna.

You can also opt to do fishing by chartering a fishing boat. Cabo has at least 350 charters that cater to boat chartering needs in the area. Chartering a boat for your fishing adventure may make it more exciting and fun.

If you want first-class fishing experience, you can even charter a yacht for your fishing adventure. There are several yacht chartering companies in Cabo that would cater to your need. They often offer chartering packages depending on how long the trip would be, and how many are going. Be aware also that fishing licenses may be required before you go on your fishing escapade.

Furthermore, many of the most acclaimed fishing competitions in the world are held in Cabo San Lucas too. Most of these tournaments usually happen in October. Try fishing in this island now and you will surely experience a world-class fishing adventure.

Outdoor enthusiast a generation ago had to rely on maps, compasses and landmarks for navigation in unknown territory. There were unseen dangers due to getting lost in dangerous areas and even not being to find your way back to safe areas because of weather. Garmin Handheld GPS units and others have changed the dangerous into exciting adventures. Now you can navigate to anywhere and back without becoming lost or getting into unsafe areas by using a GPS unit.

Exploring the great outdoors entails risks that can be dangerous if you get lost in unsafe or unfamiliar territory especially in unexpected bad weather. Garmin Handheld GPS units are especially popular for hikers, bikers, Geocaching, hunters, fisherman, and boaters. Some of the latest Garmin units include instrumentation to help predict changing weather.

GPS units can replace the traditional compass, paper maps or relying on landmarks to guide you. Terrain and even traveled roads can change from what they were on maps that may be outdated. GPS units are also accurate in inclement weather conditions as well as good weather.

With GPS technology and electronic mapping you can explore unfamiliar territory without the fear of getting off the course you choose to travel. With Garmin Handheld GPS tracback technology you can retrace your trip exactly. If you are a boater or fisherman you are able with GPS technology to keep up with where you are, where you are headed, speed you are traveling and return to an area or spot where fishing is the best. Also GPS units are just as precise at night as in the daytime.

With Garmin Handheld GPS receivers you can transfer data to and from a computer. You can download data from a computer and then share that data with other Garmin users in the field. You can share fishing areas as an example, or hiking or biking trails as well. You are only limited by the data you collect or download.

The Golfing game has been changed for many by using a GPS unit to give distances of the next shot and the correct distance of the last shot which can improve your game. The Garmin Handheld GPS Approach G5 golfing unit comes preloaded with thousands of golf courses in the USA. It also allows you to map any course not included you might wish to play. Try a GPS unit for your golfing and improve your game.

GPS technology has generated new outdoor activities and new sports. Geocaching is an example of a new sport that combines an outdoor excursion and a treasure hunt into a day of excitement for many people. Another new sport generated by GPS technology is Geodashing. Geodashing is an outdoor race to a precise coordinate that can even be across country.

Just as cars are more advanced today than in the past GPS technology is advancing at a fast rate also. Garmin Handheld GPS receivers become more advanced with each product release. Whether you are a boater, hunter, fisherman, biker, hiker or engage in other outdoor activities requiring GPS technology, you will find Garmin leading the pack.

For thousands of years, we’ve learned to forge our way across the waters as a means of travel. Since the 21st century began, so too has Old Town kayaks, and they’ve been fashioning kayaks since 1940. Taking the original inspiration from Native Americans’ canoes, Old Towne began making kayaks with sealskin design, along with wood and canvas materials.

Starting around the 1950′s, Old Town began manufacturing toward the use of lightweight fiberglass. Their kayaks are now produced with durable PolyLink3 and SuperLink3–a trend towards new, contemporary use of materials in the new century. With so many different styles to choose from, how does one determine the best kayak to suit their needs?

Kayaks are quite different from the lowly canoe. They permit you to easily and quickly maneuver across the water using double-bladed paddles. Since you travel faster and closer to the water than other water craft, you typically have greater stability in a kayak. If you’re considering the purchase of a kayak, be sure to understand how you’re planning to use it. Such factors as the kayak’s materials, weight, capacity cockpit and overall size will be very important as you weigh in the factors for your decision.

If you’re interested only in recreational kayaks, you will be delighted to know that so many styles, designs and choices exist. These models are very user-friendly and are ready to shove off into the water at a moment’s notice. In addition, day touring kayak models have great tracking capabilities and they’re stable and highly-efficient to boot. Some kayaks even provide open cockpits that allow kayakers to quickly and easily enter and exit their kayaks. Both sportsmen and families alike will find much enjoyment in their use of day touring kayak models.

If there are two of you preparing for to kayak, you may wish to consider a tandem model. Tandem kayaks are great for couples, and are very suitable for all kinds of bodies of water. Fishing kayaks are lightweight, stable, and have features that enhance the experience of fishing and kayaking simultaneously. Both models have the same type of construction, such as shock cord deck riggings, cockpits, deck hatches and handles for carrying.

Old Town kayaks, built in Maine, have tried to manufacture kayaks for everyones taste. The shorter the kayak, the more maneuverable they are and lighter. Longer kayaks are great for cruising and traveling in the open waters. They are also better for day trips and overnighters. Wide boats are good for photographers and fishermen and narrow boats go farther. The bottom layer is also important in your purchase of Old Town kayaks for sale.

Flat bottom kayaks will make your journey more comfortable through calm waters. Shallow arch bottoms work best in choppy waters. When you need to improve tracking over water, the V-bottom kayaks may be the ideal choice for you. In addition, kayaks vary with the sides that are built. When the sides of a kayak is curved inward, this is called a tumblehome design, which is typically that of a narrow kayak. Flared sides allow the kayak to function best while sitting deeper in the water. Old Town kayaks are produced from a variety of materials including 100% recycled plastic, polyethylene and a variable layer boat.

Among the models made by Old Town, Maine include the Digio 106 Angler. Lying low in the water, this kayaks allows fishermen to navigate silently through the water. This model includes rod holders. Another angler model is known as the Vapor 12xt with day well, and even includes storage for your GPS and iPods. You can travel just about anywhere in this kayak! The Adventure and Cayuga series are great kayak models for those looking for day tours. These models are set up with features that make them terrific choices for overnight excursions.

Already round for decades, Old Town kayaks plan on building quality boats well into the new century. The company prides itself on their understanding of craftsmanship exhibited so well by the native American people. Old Town will certainly succeed in competing against the competition with high-quality and easily affordable kayaks providing fun for young and old.

Forging our ways across the waters has been a method of travel for thousands of years. Old Town Kayaks has been around since the twenty-first century, fashioning kayaks since 1940.
Constructed in Maine, Old Town kayaks are manufactured by a company that fully cares about producing kayaks that fit everyone’s taste and style. While shorter kayaks tend to be lighter and have greater maneuverability, longer kayaks provide a pleasurable experience in cruising and travel in open water. Longer kayaks are also preferred over shorter kayaks for overnighters and day trips. Wider boats are ideal for photographers and fishermen becuase they provide a more stable experience. Narrow boats are preferable for those planning on farther excursions. When considering the purchase of Old Town kayaks for sale, also be sure to check out the bottom layer of the boat, which is also an important component to consider.

Now that the warm summer months are rapidly approaching, many folks find themselves wanting to get out on the water to do some fishing. This is a great activity as fishing gives a lot of people the relaxation time that they have been wanting for so long. While some folks do not mind going out on ultra-fast boats to fish, others tend to prefer the peacefulness that comes with kayaking. There is just something about sea or fishing kayaking that people cannot get enough of.

If you have yet to kayak by yourself, then it is highly recommended that you go out with someone having kayaking experience. Even though most kayakers prefer a calm ride, there are some things you’ll want to carefully watch. You might, for example, want to wait a bit before buying a kayak for yourself until you get the hang of riding and paddling one. By getting familiar with the sport first, you’ll get the experience you need to make a wise decision when it comes time to purchasing one on your own. This will also give you the chance to learn more about the sport so that you’ll get the familiarity you need when shopping for your perfect kayak.

When you head out on the water for the first few kayaking experiences, make sure that your experienced friend who’s accompanying you walks you through the ropes and answers all your questions. If you don’t have access to an experienced kayaking friend, then you will probably want to seek the advice from a professional. Many facilities now offer specialized courses in kayaking. Rent a kayak for a few hours with an instructor and you’ll get the best start towards learning this relaxing and fun activity which will provide you with a lifetime of enjoyable water and fishing experiences.

Once you’ve learned all there is to know, you can then pass your knowledge onto friends and family so that they can enjoy the fun with you. They can also get their own kayaks and go out with you for some valued, quality time on the water. Either way, kayaking provides adventures that all can enjoy amongst their friends and family. In no time, you’ll be on your way to looking like professional kayakers, and you’ll wonder how you ever fished before learning how to paddle a kayak.

Selecting a kayak is a process that begins by considering the lifestyle of you and your family. Kayaks are like many other modes of transportation: There are a wide assortment of models and styles from which to choose. The type of kayak you choose will be largely based on how you plan to use it. Let’s take a look at the five hottest brands on the market today. These brands offer a great mix of high-adventure styles. You’ll find kayaks that fit nearly every performance requirement–from maneuvering the rapids to a calm ride across the lake to a relaxing day of trout fishing.

1.) Old Town Kayaks. What does a company named the Old Town Canoe Company know about kayaks? Just about everything. Old Town is the oldest and largest canoe and kayak manufacturer, dating way back to 1898. With a much-deserved images for quality, Old Town is known best for leading the kayaking business in craftsmanship and innovation. Old Town’s kayaking line includes safe, stable sea kayaks, tandem kayaks, touring kayaks, exciting recreational kayaks and, of course, fishing kayaks. Old Town is known for combining modern materials and stylish contemporary design forms to their traditional, time-honored paddle craft. No wonder Old Town leads as a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts and sportsmen/sportswomen.

2.) Perception Kayaks. Perception answers when the Great Outdoors calls. This world-class kayaking company has been designing cutting-edge kayaks since the 1970s with their pioneering efforts in introducing the plastic kayak. Today, by using these latest innovative technologies, Perception has stayed ahead of the competition by addressing the wants, needs and desires of a new generation of kayakers. Perception kayaks are pervasive in the touring and recreational kayak line, but also have a giant selection of sporting-rec and sit-on-top kayaks to suit the needs of the most discriminating kayakers. Nearly 30 years later, the same passion that created the first line of Perception kayaks now drives development resulting in the release of sleek, new and innovatively-designed kayaks.

3.) Dagger Kayaks. The story of Dagger begins with a few kayaker friends who worked feverishly in a small shop with a dirt room floor to create leading-edge, world-class kayaks. Dagger kayaks are a kayakers favorite among all brands today. The company is well-regarded for developing and releasing the highest quality kayaks available. The Dagger kayaking line of products are field tested by a collective group of kayaking professionals known as ‘Team Dagger’ before their products are released to the public. Those who wisely purchase Dagger kayaks can feel confident knowing that their kayak met the highest standards before Dagger was willing to give it their stamp of approval.

4.) Hobie Kayaks. With a proud heritage of water craft behind them, Hobie spawned their ubiquitous brand to become a well-respected leader in sea and fishing kayaks. Hobie claims that ‘their mother was a sailboat and their father was a surfboard’. Hobie demonstrates this motto in their water craft design. This results in the creation of the most innovative, high-tech kayaks on the market today. Hobies expertise and heritage redefines the industry standard. Take, for example, their MirageDrive pedaling system. This system uses two underwater flippers similar to a penguins fins, to power the kayak. In addition, Hobie kayaks integrate a seamless, roto-molded, polethylene construction method. Some people argue that Hobie kayaks are closer to guided missiles than typical traditional kayaks of years gone by.

5.) Pelican Kayaks. Now going into their 40th year, Pelican International is recognized as a leader in producing affordable, high-quality water craft products. Pelican now produces hundreds of boats”from pedal boats and fishing boats to canoes and, of course, durable and affordable kayaks. The company has been a leader in the development of exclusive technologies that set benchmarked standards of excellence for impact resistance, and for products’ ability to regain shape after violent impacts, as well as their UV-protected exteriors. Pelican targets the recreational user, and are an excellent choice for the outdoor enthusiast looking for a balance between quality and affordability.

For those lacking current experience with kayaking, you may not fully understand what the fuss is all about. Once you’ve taken your first fishing trip on a kayak, you will likely see the light and understand what everyone has been talking about all these years. Kayaking in the ocean, river, or lake is just an all-around great time for the entire family. Since most kayaking takes place at a relaxing pace, you are forced to take your time and take in all of the scenery around you. With our lives so hectic these days, there is no reason to do anything other then move slowly and truly relax out on the water.

Every year, I head down south for the winter in my sailboat. It's nice to go down to the Florida Keys, if you can find the time. The Chesapeake area is a great place to spend the winter. Unlike the northeast area, the waters don't freeze up in December, making it ideal for sailing. There are so many coves to explore that you can visit a new one on each journey. Conveniently located nearby is the Norfolk International Airport. North Carolina is another nice area to explore as its waters stay quite warm in the winter thanks to the gulfstream. Dowry Creek in Belhaven to Oriental and Beaufort (Bow-Fort) where they found Black Beards' ship by the inlet are great marinas. The slip rates vary from $7 - $8 per foot per month. So for a 40' boat you're talking around $280.00 a month/6 months $1680.00 and sail her back up north in the spring. Very reasonable! The internet makes it easy to discover the numerous slips available there.
Post from: Discover Boats

Winter Escape on Your Sailboat

Every year, I head down south for the winter in my sailboat. It’s nice to go down to the Florida Keys, if you can find the time. The Chesapeake area is a great place to spend the winter. Unlike the northeast area, the waters don’t freeze up in December, making it ideal for sailing. There are so many coves to explore that you can visit a new one on each journey. Conveniently located nearby is the Norfolk International Airport. North Carolina is another nice area to explore as its waters stay quite warm in the winter thanks to the gulfstream. Dowry Creek in Belhaven to Oriental and Beaufort (Bow-Fort) where they found Black Beards’ ship by the inlet are great marinas. The slip rates vary from $7 – $8 per foot per month. So for a 40′ boat you’re talking around $280.00 a month/6 months $1680.00 and sail her back up north in the spring. Very reasonable! The internet makes it easy to discover the numerous slips available there.

If you sail from Montauk to the Chesapeake, it would take about 54 hours (2-2 1/2 days). A great first stop is Cape May Harbor, a 30 hour trip. There you can anchor by the coast guard station. From there, you can either go offshore towards the Chesapeake, a 24 hour trip, or go up the Delaware Bay to the C & D canal, a 8-10 hour trip with the tide on your side. From a C & D marina, you can set sail for the northern Chesapeake. Norfolk, VA., with the beginning of the ICW, is south. That would be longer, but more inland. I prefer to sail offshore on my trip down to avoid the inland obstructions, tide changes, buoys, etc. Offshore you’re just clicking the miles off and getting into your watch routines. During October and November, the wind is on your side when heading south. They come from the northeast, off the land, making the seas flatter and giving you plenty of speed. With a rumbline to the Chesapeake, that would be a beam reach all the way down. Even with that Cape May stop over, the next day would have the wind aft of the beam.

When you first enter the mouth of the Chesapeake, you’ll find a great, protected harbor, Little Creek. “Little Creek Marina”, “Cobbs”, & “Cutty Sarks” marinas offer slips at cheap daily, weekly, or monthly rates. I find the kind and helpful southern hospitality second to none. Another great marina is Tidewater in Norfolk, where you’ll find lots of room to dock or anchor nearby. I have a hard time choosing between sticking around the Chesapeake area or taking the ICW to North Carolina. Either way, I find so many great coves and towns to check out. There are many other boaters enjoying their winter voyage and you’ll make friends with many of them.

My trip usually starts in October, as long as no hurricane is on its way. It’s still the hurricane season, but in the Chesapeake there’s plenty of time to head for a safe harbor. The storms take several days to several weeks to reach this area. I make it a habit to have several sources of information for weather, wind, and wave information. There are several good websites, and, of course, the VHF radio will keep you up-to-date on any formations or disturbances in the Atlantic and Caribbean.

There’s so much to explore, whether your trip is just for a long weekend or over the winter. But, who says you have to go home for the summer. Another adventure always lies ahead.

Vacations are created to make sure that we get lots of new experience, emotions, change the atmosphere around, get new impressions and – who knows – maybe even broaden the horizons of how we see the world.

Cruises are a perfect match for these goals. This is the type of vacation that is really different from what you have got used to. This is something which is very popular, but needs special skills and knowledge to make a wise choice.

Don’t forget that in a cruise you are on board of a ship, and this is the place where you will spend most of the time.

So, let’s get down to the practical and useful tips and information about how to make a wise cruise vacation choice.

Helpful hints from others who have cruised before you, will guide you through the process of creating your perfect Caribbean cruise.

Planning for your cruise can be overwhelming, there is a lot of things to do and that you need to buy, but in the end you will have a relaxing vacation and a great time. Once you have experienced a couple Caribbean cruises you will be prepared to enjoy the sun and sand in style.

Planning an Itinerary

Choosing a Caribbean cruise line and itinerary are the first steps necessary in planning your Caribbean cruise. Your next step is to plan for what you will need to pack. There are often special activities planned on the island for people taking a Caribbean cruise. If you plan on leaving the ship when it makes port, be sure to book those excursions in advance. It is best to plan ahead in order to properly schedule and stay within financial constraints.

Packing the right clothes is a trickier part of planning a Caribbean cruise than you might imagine. Planning for resort wear, beach wear, and special excursions can create more forethought and planning than the Caribbean cruise traveler planned for. But packing wisely will have a very positive effect in terms of stress-free traveling and making the most efficient use of the limited space in your stateroom.

Choosing a single color scheme for your travel clothing that can be mixed with a few other pieces during your Caribbean cruise vacations is the best packing trip. Luggage space can be saved by renting tuxedos on the ship or by packing a simple dress that can be altered for different occasions by the addition of accessories. When going on a Caribbean cruise, coordinate shorts and tops that can be worn with each other. This will cut down on the amount of space you need when packing.

There are a few things you should never forget on a Caribbean cruise, including sunglasses, sunscreen, and of course a camera so you can remember all those great memories. You will be able to have a worry-free vacation if you plan ahead and pack well.

For the vacation packing checklist tips please read this blog post.

Bicycles are one of the best ways to take in nature. They’re quiet enough to not disturb most wildlife, fast enough to make a journey of quite a few miles feasible during the course of a day but not so fast that they cause tourists to miss anything. The Assateague Island National Seashore has some of the best nature biking trails on the east coast, many of them paved, which makes touring here on a mountain bike easy and fun.

If you want to get an even more close-up view of the natural surroundings, there are miles of hiking trails as well. The National Park Service recommends bringing durable boots and bug repellent. The Island is a humid climate and that can mean the mosquitoes can be thick at times. The natural beauty, however, far overshadows any inconveniences caused by the bugs.

For those who really want a fast-paced adventure, the Assateague Island National Seashore is one of the best areas around for over-sand vehicle cruising. It requires a permit, available from the National Park Service and, of course, some consideration for the natural environment.

Taking A Paddleboat Cruise

In May my husband and I took a wonderful steamboat trip on the Colombia River, 1,240 miles long, and Snake River, 1,038 miles long, aboard the American West’s Empress of the North. This is the first time we had ever done a “niche” type cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yes, the clientele tends to be older, but, what a shame that the younger mature adults are missing out on all this fun. It is steam boating in the true sense of the word. The paddlewheel turns as you leisurely make your way up and down the rivers and through the many dams that have been erected since the time of Lewis and Clarke. The ship is patterned after the river boats that plied the waters of Alaska, Oregon and Washington over 100 years ago and has a distinctly Russian flavor.

On the particular adventure that we took it was to follow the path of the Lewis and Clarke expedition so it was historical as well as fun. We boarded the Empress of the North in Portland, Oregon with no mishaps just a bit of a long wait. However, they did supply entertainment and refreshments while they prepared the ship for us. Once aboard we were escorted to a lovely stateroom that was right out of the riverboat era. There was a TV but we never used it since the real entertainment was the trip and the excursions which were included in the price of the cruise. The rooms reminded you of the river boat era but were very much up to modern standards.

Just a little tidbit: The “Portland Penny” is how Portland got its name narrowly missing being called Boston. The partners Lovejoy and Pettygrove who had filed the claim staking the territory needed to come up with a name for the quickly expanding territory. Lovejoy being from Boston, Massachusetts was adamant that this would be the name, while Pettygrove equally adamant wanted it to be called Portland after his beloved Portland, Maine.

The artwork on the Empress was truly impressive. There were beautiful Russian artifacts and amazing pictures of the gold rush and life in the Northwest during the 1800’s. I spent a lot of time just going up and down the four hallways perusing the artwork. (Every floor has a different theme). Our first night out of Portland we were invited to cocktails and hors d’oeurves at the Paddlewheel lounge which is in the back of the boat and has windows overlooking the paddle wheel. We were still busy getting situated so we grabbed a cocktail and took it back to our room to get organized. Dinner was in the Romanov Dining room and the atmosphere really was one of a riverboat. The food was very good served by a courteous and fun American crew. Dinner lasted about an hour to an hour and a half and then it was off to the Golden Nugget showroom to watch the Pat O’Neal and the River Boat Jazz band play great Dixieland Music. Well, if you weren’t into it by then you never were going to be. What fun and you are sharing it with only 200 other passengers. After the show you could stay in the Showroom for dancing or go to the Paddlewheel Lounge for the duo of Kari & Jerry who were not only very good but extremely friendly.

Of course, you are in a new place everyday and everyday brings a new exciting, educational and different excursion. Our first day out we where cruising the Columbia River Gorge taking in the breathtaking vistas, granite cliffs and waterfalls from which the Cascade Mountains takes it’s name.

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would recommend to other adults, this not a ship for children.

Many studies have shown, and many people already know that being with friends and family, relaxing in the outdoors and being close to nature are the best reasons to buy a boat and spend time on the water. Your family doesn’t need to spend a fortune or travel to a theme park to have an experience that everyone will enjoy.

Boating as a family
If you’ve ever felt that your family is going in different directions, a boat can help to bring things back together. When you spend time with your family on a boat, it’s all quality time. No matter if you’re fishing, tubing, swimming, or just cruising, your doing it together – as a family.

There are no distractions on the water, so you can focus your attention on each other. You can share stories, laugh, have conversations, or reconnect and create all new memories together. To put it in simple terms, a boat will make life much better.

Boating helps you relax
Being on a boat makes it easy to relax. There are no faxes, computers, or interruptions on a boat. You have the open water, fresh air, the warm sun, and adventure that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

With a boat, a great getaway is all but a weekend away. You may be a few miles from home in reality, although you’ll feel like your a million miles away.

Having fun
On a boat, the fun will never stop. There are always things to do, places to see, fish to catch, and new memories to create. Buying a boat is easy to do, even if you are on a budget. If your ready to start a new journey in life – a boat is something you and your family simply must have.

If you’re planning a cruise vacation, there are eight key questions you need to ask yourself before you even begin to book. Keep reading to learn what these eight questions are and how to research and book the best cruise vacation for you.

1. Who’s Going?

Depending on the age of your travelers and whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a family fun free-for-all is going to have a defining impact on the type of cruise you choose.

By determining well in advance who will be going, you can really narrow down the choices.

2. What’s Your Budget?

Setting a budget in advance will help you plan how much you spend and the type of cruise vacation that you can afford. A typical cruise vacation costs about $100-$300 per day per person, excluding airfare.

Booking early, booking last minute or being willing to take an inside cabin are ways you can save money on your cruise. Inside cabins do not have a window view of the ocean.

3. How Much Time do You Have?

Knowing how much vacation you have will help you narrow down your cruise choices. For example, if you only have 5 vacation days available, you won’t be indulging in that 3-week adventure up the coast of East Africa.

Typically, a week’s vacation allows for a solid 5-7 day cruise in the Caribbean. It can also work depending where you are in North America, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and even the South Pacific.

4. When Do You Want to Travel?

Having a rough idea of when you want to go will help you focus on specific sailing times and even destinations. For example, Alaska cruises only operate during the five summer months.

5. Where Do You Want to Go?

From Africa to the Caribbean to the South Pacific, cruises travel all over the world. If you know, for example, you want to explore the cities of the Mediterranean, you’ll be able to focus your search on Mediterranean cruises.

6. What Activities Do You Like?

For every taste, there’s a cruise line that caters to it. From wine tasters to extreme athletes, there are cruises designed specifically for you – you just have to determine your interest.

7. Do You Like Structure?

Some cruise ships have set dining times, ranging from as early as 6:00 p.m. to as late as 9:00 p.m. Others offer freestyle service which allows you to eat when you please.

8. Do You Enjoy Formal Wear?

Before you book a luxury cruise that offers formal dining every night, ask yourself if you’re ready to pack your tuxedo. Whether you want to dress up for dinner every night, just a few nights or not at all, there’s a cruise for you. Just be sure to research your options before you purchase.

The most important thing to bring with you when you go adventure sailing is a camera. This will allow you to take pictures so you can share this with family and friends when you get home.

For those who want to go swimming, don’t forget your bathing suit so you can jump in anytime into the water especially when you just want to cool off. If there is some space in your bag, perhaps you can also pack in some snorkeling gear as some will rent this to you for a fee.

Since there will be some port calls, you better have you with some street clothes so you can do some sightseeing and shopping. It will also be a good idea to bring a camera so you can take pictures since you will never see such places back home.

If cruising is your passion then a European cruise vacation has to be on your agenda at some stage.

Bear in mind, cruising through Europe will be a little different than cruising the Caribbean simply because of the different cultures. While fun is the obvious theme for many cruises a European cruise also offers the chance to experience culture and history.

And there is a lot of history contained within Europe. The best times to travel on a cruise to this history-rich continent is between April and November.

Yes, this is also peak time but you’ll also enjoy the best of the weather. Cruise lines such as Carnival are offering great deals most of the time and it will pay to check their site for these specials.

If you find something you like then always check with a travel agent before you go ahead and book. It’s always more prudent to deal with travel professionals when booking a cruise because you are likely to get a much more attractive deal.

Best Cruise Deals

For example, Carnival are offering 12 day cruises in October 2008, still prime cruising time for just over $1000. That’s pretty good value considering the cruise will last almost two weeks. You’ll need to be quick though as these trips fill up quickly.

The benefits of a European cruise lies in the fact you get to visit many ports in a short range of time. Europe is a pretty compact continent so you have the advantage of seeing many different cultures in a short space of time.

Most of the traveling is done at night because of the close proximity of many destinations within Europe you get to enjoy most of the day sightseeing.

The famous Mediterranean is a haven of fun, adventure and romance and the ability to view and film some of the most spectacular coastlines in the world is worth the price of the cruise alone.

Are there any drawbacks? Sure and biggest one for North American visitors is the extra travel time.

That is, traveling from the US for example to your European destination will usually take at least a day so if you’re planning a European cruise, make sure you give yourself an extra 2-3 days of vacation time.

Another drawback is the amount of time spent at each port-of-call. A European cruise is often packed with several destination points and while this may be a little too rushed for some, most will appreciate the fact that they can at least see a destination for a short time and then perhaps plan to re-visit it at a later date.

Its that time of the year when you celebrate your birthday, 55th one this year. Your wife, just a few years behind, asks you what you’d like as a present. Hmmm let’s see … you’ve got a cupboard full of gifts you haven’t really used so what else could there be? We’ve got an option you’d love to try. How about taking a cruise? Where? Well- anywhere you want to go … there are so many cruise lines world over!

How about a Mediterranean cruise – along the Nile or an exotic one in Asia – Thailand or Hawaii? Costa Rica? Or a cold adventurous one through the Arctic? The choices are a plenty and each one different from the others.

Apart from the places you visit enroute, the cruise company has its own party planned on the liner. The luxurious interiors of a ship are complemented by the activities such as pools, casinos, fine dining, dancing and many more. You can decide on the cruise that fits your mood and your age too! Yes, cruise lines offer specialized itineraries for different groups. If you feel adventurous, you can opt for the cruise offering offshore hiking and other adventure activities. If you want a relaxing holiday, go for one with more sightseeing programmes. You might even be tempted as many others, to pick more than one cruise – it would be so memorable.

One of the best parts of a cruise is that you get to see so many destinations in one trip. Besides, the ship docks for a few days in one port for supplies. This helps passengers who get to sightsee in peace. It is a boon for the travelers who like to enjoy the local attractions.

In case you can’t plan too much in advance or have decided to take a cruise at the last minute, you needn’t despair. Most cruise lines offer a variety of departure schedules so that you can adjust according to your comfort. Certain cruises last quite a while.

When you are in the over 50s age group, you would more often than not want a relaxed peaceful trip. Maximum excitement could be the festivities on board or the marine life you get to see. People have reportedly seen dolphins swimming beside the liners at see a number of times. You could probably report a similar experience too while you sit by the pool side on the deck and enjoy the brilliant sun, the sparkling sea, azure sky, starry nights and the cool sea breeze!

Travel agents will gladly take care of your booking and provide all the required information on your chosen cruise. If you like, you could access website on the Internet. Browse around for a good deal being offered specially to patrons in their fifties! You’ll get some special rates and discounts. Price listings can be obtained and special information can be requested through online brochures. These websites also give departure schedules and ports enroute.

A cruise travel is a wonderful investment.

Family cruise vacations are a wonderful way to engage the whole family in a trip that’s relatively all-inclusive and offers a range of activities that appeal to family members young and old. However, before you depart on your big family cruise vacation, you need to consider a few crucial safety tips.

To learn how to really enjoy yourself and have a fun and safe time on your next family cruise, keep reading for the top family cruise safety tips from the experts.

1. Check your ship’s report card

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a department called the Vessel Sanitation Program. That program inspects ships on a regular basis for cleanliness, food preparation, hygiene, water control, rodents and disease prevention. Upon inspection, each ship is given a report card that is then made available on the CDC web site.

Before you book your next cruise, look up your specific ship’s report card to check their grade.

2. Put safety first

Before you book with a cruise line, even a “family” cruise or a “kid” cruise, always make sure you know the cruise line’s policy on child safety. If they don’t have one or if it isn’t readily available to you, then they are not the cruise line for you.

Ask about their daycare employees, the activity counselors and the children’s guides – are they qualified to work with children? Do they have first aid certification? Have they been thoroughly screened? What background checks has the cruise line done? How does the cruise line keep track of every child when parents aren’t present?

3. Be diligent, especially on shore

Admittedly, a cruise can feel very safe. It’s an enclosed environment, but that doesn’t mean parents can fully let down their guard. Kids can still fall, slip, get hurt, wander into unsupervised or dangerous areas and generally do what kids do.

Despite the childcare, the amenities available to you and the enclosed space, never forget that you’re a parent. If you’re going on shore with your children, keep a close eye on them and try sticking to cruise ship organized activities.

4. Have your papers in order

Before you leave, make sure that everyone has a passport. If any of the children have a different last name from yourself or your friend, or if they’re traveling without one parent, be sure to get copies of their birth certificates or custody agreements or a letter that states you’re allowed to bring them outside the country.

Also, make sure everyone is properly insured for travel, including cruise destinations which have specific legal implications because of international waters and the various ports of call. Keep all this paperwork in a safe place.

Taking a cheap cruise today seems a strange thing to say. Why? Basically because the price of cruising has never been more affordable and the number of people cruising for the first time has jumped dramatically in recent years.

The truth is, if you cannot find a discount cruise holiday these days then you are not trying hard enough. In this article, we’ll concentrate on Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines and some of the discount cruises on offer from these two giants.

Carnival Cruise Lines

The Carnival cruise lines company is one that is committed to total guest satisfaction and which strives to ensure that each and every traveler is absolutely satisfied with their trip, from start to finish.

The emphasis on these cruises is round-the-clock fun, and they offer a ton of different activities, from Vegas-style revues to high energy discos and nightlife. Here are some real cruise bargains on offer.

For example, 3 day cruises have become extremely popular and you can grab a cheap cruise to the Bahamas for as low as $350 or Baja, Mexico for under $400. Five day cruises to the Western Caribbean will set you back just under $600 while Carnival has some excellent value in their Eastern Caribbean cruises and with a little due diligence, these can be found for under $900.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines

Another great discount cruises cruise line is Royal Caribbean International, they are most well known for the grand scale adventure that they offer on their cruises.

If you are looking for new experiences and choices for the whole family, then they are the ideal option for you. They offer discount cruises but they certainly do not skimp on quality, and offer all the possible amenities that you could imagine.

They offer discount cruises to a variety of destinations, including Australia, New Zealand, Bahamas, Bermuda, New England, Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, Orient, Panama Canal, and South America. They offer everything you could possibly imagine, including golf courses and rock-climbing walls looming up to 200 feet over the ocean.

Meanwhile, last minute cruise deals through Royal Caribbean offer great value. Holidays for less than $500 to the Caribbean for under $500 are hard to beat while those with a little more adventure should consider Alaska cruises during the summer months starting at under $700.

With a little homework, finding a cheap cruise is not difficult at all particularly if you do a little extra investigative work by checking with a variety of travel agents. You’ll be amazed how much you can get an original quote down just by asking.

Cruises are a popular vacation choice for travelers of all ages – from families looking for adventure to couples seeking romance to single vacationers hoping to meet new people and explore the world. If you’re planning an upcoming cruise vacation, there are few considerations you should take into account before selecting a cruise line.

There are hundreds of cruise lines operating and they range from dastardly to over-the-top luxurious. Keep reading to learn some of the basics you should look for in a cruise line. From target markets to ship amenities, the right cruise line is out there for you.

1. Know the Target Markets

Some cruise lines have specific target markets. For example, Disney Cruises cater to families with children while other cruise lines offer cruises that are specifically for couples, single adults or seniors.

By being aware of the target market for not only your cruise line but also your specific sailing. That will help to ensure you don’t wind up booking your romantic honeymoon cruise on a Spring break party boat and that you find your most desirable cruise destination.

2. Read Customer Reviews

Before booking your next cruise, read traveler reviews online. You’ll get great insight into what real travelers like you have to say about a ship, its staff, the amenities and the food.

If a review is over-the-top glowing or suspiciously poor, read another. Try to get a variety of opinions for a thorough and perhaps more balanced idea of the ship.

3. Take a Virtual Tour

Most cruise lines offer virtual tours of their ships. Prospective customers can view videos or photos of everything from the individual cabins to the dining halls to the swimming pools.

Look over a map layout of the cruise line’s boats and try to get a feel for where your cabin would be, especially relative to busy public areas or noisy crew facilities.

4. You Get What You Pay For

There are deals to be had on some cruise lines, but normally you get what you pay for. You should always look for discounts; however going off the beaten path and opting to book a cruise on an unknown line with nothing but poor reviews simply because it’s only $60 a day is a recipe for disaster. You’ll wind up disappointed by the experience – or worse!

When it comes to choosing the right cruise line for you, do your research. Check online photos and video, read customer testimonials, review the target market and remember that cheaper isn’t always better.

Everybody has a story. Some story. Maybe it’s a funny thing that happened to them when they were young. Or an adventure they had. Or a game or a fight they won. A fluke. A co-incidence. An act of courage. Or a random kindness.

You probably have a story, too.

It could be a bet you won by a fluke. Or a stroke of luck you had.

Maybe you have a story about the way you met your spouse. Or the disaster that occurred the first time you tried to make pie crust. The camping trip where it only rained. Climbing over the fence at the wrong time. The time you tried to put on a rain poncho while riding a horse. An escape. A fantastic last-minute win at sports. The job you got when it seemed impossible. How you learned to dance. The dog that ran off with your shoe at a wedding.

Or maybe something unusual – maybe you saw a ghost once. Or a UFO. Maybe you read someone’s mind and found out you were right. It could be anything.

Everybody has a story!

I call these stories your “Once Upon a Time Stories.” They could be short or they could be long. People like to talk about their stories with their friends. At lunch. On the bus. On the phone. Or while they sit around the fire or on the back fire escape chatting with a friend into the wee hours. (Or maybe on Instant Message while they are supposed to be working! …)

I would like to invite everyone to come and post their own “Once Upon a Time Story” at Your Poems <lc>and</lc> Stories

In case you would like to have an example of a Once Upon a Time Story, I will tell you
one of mine.

Okay … let me think. I’m thinking.

Okay.

Once upon a time …

I decided to go on a camping trip with my friend Matt. We hitchhiked to a village which was north of the city we lived in. We had heard that there was a cave there and we thought it would be fun to sleep in a cave. I had just met Matt around the city, and I didn’t know him that well. He was a friend of friends. But we got along fine.

So we began to hitchhike. Somehow, before we arrived to our destination, it got dark. The people who were giving us a ride invited us to stay in their home for the night, so we did. They lived in a small village high on top of a hill.

When we woke up in the morning we had breakfast. White rolls. I ate way too many. I don’t know why I ate so many rolls! But I remember Matt looking at me with a surprised expression because I was eating so many rolls.

In any case, we had to continue on our way to our cave. So we said thank you and goodbye to the people who had helped us, and we proceeded to walk down to the main road.

Now, this village was way at the top of a hill. There was a long windy road down to the bottom. But there were almost no cars on that road at all. So we walked all the way down, maybe two kilometers.

At that age, I had a habit of eating dandelions and I was picking them and eating them. Matt thought this was strange. He wanted to eat in a restaurant we passed, and I objected as it was quite an expensive one.

When we finally reached the main road, we continued to hitch hike to the village where the cave was. We arrived at the village and found the park which had a rock hill in the middle. The cave was supposed to be in that hill.

Now somehow, at some point, while we were searching for this cave, we lost each other. And Matt had my sleeping bag.

I remember searching for Matt around that little rock mountain in the middle of the park. I went around and around that mountain for – well – three hours, as I recall. Searching and searching for Matt.

As the minutes and hours rolled by, I began to believe that perhaps Matt had actually run off with my sleeping bag and that I would never see him again. I began to chastise myself for trusting someone whom I just met. I mean – didn’t my father warn me? “Don’t trust anyone,” that’s what my father said. And here I was, trusting Matt with my sleeping bag!

I kept trying to convince myself that Matt would not come all the way out here just to steal my sleeping bag. But, one has to remember, I was in the middle of the situation. A lonely young girl in the forest, without a sleeping bag, walking around and around a rock hill for hours, searching for Matt.

I thought, “Could this whole thing really be a plot to steal my sleeping bag?” It didn’t seem to make sense. But he was gone!

I looked everywhere. I began to climb the rocks. I looked in among the crevices. Perhaps he had fallen and gotten hurt? This went on. Time went on. No Matt.

My trek continued.

And just as my last hopes were fading away, I heard a voice call my name. I turned and there he was.

Matt.

With my sleeping bag!

As you have probably guessed by now, we both had spent those three hours walking around and around the hill, looking for each other. But both walking in the same direction. Finally Matt realized what must be happening and he turned around to walk the opposite direction. And then he found me.

Well, there’s one little story. Later, I could tell the story of what happened when we tried to sleep in the cave.

But in any case, you see, it’s not even that fantastic or incredible. Just one of those funny things.

Now and again, when I think about it, it puts a smile on my face.

To imagine how I had wondered if perhaps this whole cave-camping trip was really a ploy to steal my sleeping bag!

Do you have a story? Or a poem? You can submit your story at Your Poems Your Stories. I think we would all love to hear it.

Love,
