Boating can be a relaxing pastime, floating along on a river or lake without a care. For most people, the boating itself is the whole point of the hobby: once you’re in the boat, you’re set.

Plenty of people bring their boat to wherever they are going to be going boating on a trailer attached to the back of their vehicle, provided the boat is of proper size to drive in, seeing as much bigger boats have to be kept in marinas, which can be expensive. Even today, tons of people still build their own boats out of nothing over wood, nails and ingenuity.

There’s a great range of different boats, from the small to the large. The smallest boats are those designed to be rowed effectively by 2 people, followed by family-sized small boats. Most people who are into boating tend to have been boating with their family, their friends, and the main reason they take their family and friends along is simply because they’ve had such fun memories in the past, they just want it to be far better.

Once you get above small boats, you start to get into powerboats (also known as speedboats and motorboats). They start off as only too large to row, but can go as large as fifty feet long with cabins and large engines – in other words, you can get powerboats that can be as big as a mid size vehicle and about as big as a truck.

While boating is fun, however, it is also hobby in which you need to pay a lot of attention to safety. Lots of boaters die each year, mainly by falling overboard and drowning. It is important that you use common sense as well as making sure to comply with the relevant safety laws, particularly by always taking lifejackets with you.

Without a doubt, boating isn’t entirely limited to just cruising around. You can also set up water-skis on the back of your boat and go water-skiing, or even enter boat racing events, if you think you’re fast enough. You can also fish, both in freshwater and in saltwater, with freshwater fishing being one of the most popular things to do with a boat.

Imagine you are on your boat floating out on the lake or ocean with the waves gently bobbing your boat side to side. Could anything be more calming? Perhaps only the ease of conscience which accompanies the feeling of readiness that got you here in the beginning.

Equipment for your Safety
Please consider the following tips that will make your boating expedition even more convenient, safer and fun-filled. Keeping your boat in top condition (that is, “ship shape” in boater jargon) is doing far more than keeping it looking good. There are many practical boating items which are not only appealing in their aesthetic design, but also provide added safety and security to both your boat and passengers alike.

For example, most boat trailers come equipped with a basic, manual winch to help you load the boat onto the trailer. For ease of loading your boat, think about getting a winch that runs off of your automobiles battery. This is also much safer than a manual winch. Using tie-downs and a boat cover can protect your boat from road damage while it’s on the trailer.

Any time you go out boating there’s a good possibility that you will tie your boat to a dock at some point. Weather conditions, such as wind, rain, or run off can make even a quiet pond rise or fall, so make sure you have a buffer between your boat and the dock to prevent your boat from taking damage. Bumpers will protect your boat’s exterior finish from damage caused by rubbing against the rough wood found on most docks. It’s a good idea to have strong rope with you to use when docking the boat and also getting the boat onto the trailer when leaving the water.

Communications Equipment
Running the open sea by either cloth sail or electric motor can be exciting; but remembering to keep in contact with the shore, and the rest of your party, can save your life when good times go bad. GPS systems, which are popular and can be found in many stores today, will help you if your standard radio communication equipment malfunctions.

In the event that your boating trip is extended past your original plans, you will find that a common gas can is an important piece of boating equipment and you should keep several on hand. Another wonderful piece of equipment is a convertible top which offers protection in the event of inclement weather. This item will keep your guests and boat free of excess water.

After getting the necessary equipment for communication, safety and aides, you should base other purchases on the way you plan to use your boat. A vessel primarily used to fish has dramatically different requirements than those used for recreation.

Determining what you’ll be using your boat for most, will help determine the boating equipment you’ll need.

Imagine you are on your boat floating out on the lake or ocean with the waves gently bobbing your boat side to side. Nothing could be more peaceful – but you could be even more at ease knowing you came prepared.

Safety Equipment
Please consider the following tips that will make your boating expedition even more convenient, safer and fun-filled. By keeping your boat in ‘ship’ shape, you’re doing more than just making it look good. The numerous available practical boating equipment and accessories not only make your vessel look its best, but they also help to keep your passengers, yourself, and your boat safe.

With regards to boat trailers for example, a standard manual winch helps with bringing the boat out of the water and onto the trailer. Considering an electric winch, which runs off of your vehicle’s battery, can make moving your boat a breeze. Also, using tie-down straps and a protective cover when transporting your boat by trailer will prevent costly damage from road debris projectiles.

While boating, chances are you will have to keep your boat tied to a dock at some point. Be sure to have a buffer between the dock and your boat to prevent your boat from taking damage as weather conditions or even waves from another boat can make even a quiet pond rise or fall which rubs your boat against the dock wood. For protection from the harsh wood of the dock, you can use bumpers to prevent the outer finish from rubbing off. You’ll need a few high grade lines to moor the boat correctly and to help put it back onto its trailer.

Radio Equipment
Sailing the open water using just sails or a motor may be thrilling, yet being sure to stay within reach of the shore and the other members of your group may just save your life if things take a turn for the worse. It is vital to have standard communication equipment; if your radio breaks, one of the ubiquitous GPS systems is a good back up backup to have.

It’s important to keep extra cans of gas on hand to avoid running out if you’re on the water longer than anticipated. Another wonderful piece of equipment is a convertible top which offers protection in the event of inclement weather. This helps the inside of a boat stay dry which your passengers will surely appreciate.

Apart from the communication, transport, and safety equipment, there’s a lot of specialized boating equipment you should consider depending on the primary use of your vessel. If a boat is mainly utilized for fishing, it will have requirements that differ from a boat that is mainly for water skiing, for example.

The first step in determining the boating equipment you’ll need is what you will be using the boat for most.

When most people think of fly fishing, trout fishing immediately comes to mind. However, fly fishing has changed. You can now fish for bass too! This is becoming increasingly popular in the United States due to the fact that it is possible to fly fish for both large- andsmallmouth bass. When attempting to fly fish for bass it is imperative that you know the basics of fly fishing, whether you are fly fishing for sport, sheer enjoyment, or for a delicious meal.

The Challenge Of Fly Fishing For Bass

Many people who enjoy fly fishing are not aware that you can fly fish for bass. Many people don’t know how to fish for bass, have not read much about them, don’t have the correct fishing gear, or don’t have a big enough boat.

Bass are great fish to fly fish for because they are durable and can live in some of the worst conditions. They are much more advanced than most fish, such as trout. Basically, fly fishing for bass is much more fun and it is definitely more of a challenge. If you are up for a challenge that will really test your abilities as a fly fisherman, try fly fishing for bass as soon as possible!

Using A Fly Rod To Catch Bass

To many, it seems a little strange to gobass fly fishing. However, when it comes to fly fishing, there are many types of fish that can be caught. People usually fly fish to catch trout, but it is also possible to catch carp, pike, and even bass.

The first thing to ensure when preparing to fly fish for bass is that you have a good, strong fly rod that will be able to reel in a bass of any size. This is important because bass are naturally large, aggressive fish so you need a rod that will withstand a lot of pressure and weight. The advantage of using a fly rod to catch bass is that it is much easier to hook the fish. Bass are generally quite a ravenous species of fish that are always eager to latch on to bait, so the fly rod and lure will do most of the attracting for you.

Make The Correct Choice Of Fly And Rod

If you decide that you want to try out fly fishing for bass, you should most definitely invest in a Wooly Buggers. Because it is large in size, this specific type of fly is perfect for catching both smallmouth bass andlargemouth bass. It is generally accepted that the larger the fly you use, the better your catch will be. Also keep in mind that it is recommended to use a dry fly when fly fishing for bass.

The best rod to use when fly fishing for bass is a 6 to 7 weight fly rod. In some cases it is possible to fly fish for bass with a 4 to 5 weight fishing rod but this is not recommended. If you are to use larger flies a lighter rod will make it very difficult to cast the fly out on to the water. With regard to the type of line used for bass fly fishing, ensure that you have a rod that uses both sinking and floating line (depending on the circumstances). When looking for fly rods, be sure to pick one that meets your personal needs. Find one that you can handle that fits you comfortably. If you choose a rod with a comfortable cast, you are sure to catch bass while also having fun.

There are many reasons why fly fishing for bass has become so popular in the United States. Whether you are fishing for sport or for food, using a fly fishing rod to catch bass can be a lot of fun.

One of the first things you will need to think about when you buy a boat will be boat docks to keep your craft safe and secure when you are not in it on the water. Whether it is a space for the day between trips out onto the lake, or some place to tie it up for the entire season, there are a few things to look at when it comes to renting, or building boat docks for your vessel.

The main thing will be the height of available boat docks to make sure you can get in and out of the boat with ease while insuring that any bumpers you may hang from the boat will hit the side of the dock. If the dock is too high, the top of the boat can be damaged if it rocks into the underside of the top of the dock and if it?s too low, the bumpers may ride over the top of the dock, allowing the hull to slam against the boat docks.

Some owners believe that floating boat docks are the best as they ride the waves just like boat will during a storm or from the wake of a passing boat. Most floating docks are nothing more than empty barrels, sealed to hold air, fastened together with lumber on which to walk.

Verify Security For Overnight Stays

If looking for boat docks at which to lash your boat over night or during an entire season, be sure the facility is properly secured against theft as well as insured against damage by an errant boat slamming into the boats tied up at the dock. Some boat insurance will cover theft from a dock or boat damage incurred while parked there, but many other companies believe it is the responsibility of the dock to care of any damages.

Your boat should also be equipped with cleats on the upper ridge with which to tie up to any boat docks you may stop at, helping keep it secure against the dock. While a rope tied to the bow may keep it from floating away while it in dock, being able to tie the front and back to the dock, will make it easier to board the craft later. It can also prevent the boat from floating into the path of other boats that may be passing close by the dock.

The water depth near the boat docks should also be adequate to allow the motor to be used to dock the boat as well is getting out onto the water without having to use the oars. You also so not want any large rocks on the bottom near boat docks to damage the underside of your boat.

For those who are new to the world of boating, you may have heard the term boat lift and wondered what it was all about. What a boat lift simply is is a device that keeps your boat above the water, preventing water damage and wear to your watercraft.

The Three Types of Boat Lift

You can choose from three basic types of boat lift. There is a mounted boat lift, a floating boat lift and a standing boat lift. Each one has its benefits depending upon the type of boat and the body of water for which you plan to use it.

If you have a boat that is kept on a body of water that has a firm bottom with a gradual grade and only small fluctuations in the water a standing lift is the one you should use. You can find this type of shoreline on glacial lakes and in the northern part of the United States. This type of boat lift needs to have a firm bottom to rest the standing boat frame on it securely.

If you have a dock already in place, a floating lift is a good choice for you. It will fit naturally with a floating dock. However, a floating lift is great if you have water that fluctuates a few feet during the season you use your boat, or if you house your boat on a shoreline that is deep. The floating lift utilizes tanks that are under the water and are used to make the boat lift float. It should be attached to a dock, float or a seawall and have a minimum of four feet of space underneath so the boat can get onto the lift without banging into the tanks.

If your boat is moored in a shallow salt water area or if it is anchored between the pilings or on a seawall, a mounted boat lift may be the lift for you. A mounted lift typically uses a winch that is motorized to lift your boat out of the water.

When Buying a Boat Lift Online

If you are thinking about buying online, there are a few things you should check out before doing so. Find a company that has not only a name and telephone number, but a physical address as well. You want to make your purchase from a company that can be contacted easily should you encounter any problems.

Seek a company that has their policies clearly stated. Be sure and read the policy in its entirety to ensure that you understand their policies on returns, guarantees and if they charge restocking fees should you need to return your purchase for any reason.

Use your credit card when you purchase a boat lift. It is far easier to handle any problems with the company such as fraud, delivery notification and any other situation that arises when you use a credit card to pay for your purchase.

Boating safety is not rocket science, and if you exercise common sense and do some planning ahead of your boating excursion, you should be able to have safe boating experience. However, many boaters are more taken up with how much fun they can have on the water that they may forget about boating safety. No doubt, boating is about having a lot of pleasure on the water, but it is no reason to let your guard down and put yourself and others at risk.

Plan The Voyage

One of the simplest boating safety tips you will be told about is to plan your voyage well before leaving your home and know about your destination, the people that are going with you and also when you expect to return. And, when your boating excursion entails going saltwater fishing, it certainly pays to let others know where you are going and when you expect to return so that they can call for help if you don?t follow your plan and return in time.

Another very important boating safety tip is ensuring that your boat is absolutely seaworthy, even if you are simply planning to take the boat for a ?spin?. The engine should be reliable and there should also is proper safety equipment on board, and you should absolutely never overload your boat. Also, it follows that you should take along the appropriate boat equipment and have enough supplies as well as fuel, and this simple boating safety tip can help avert serious consequences in case the boat breaks down, or you run out of fuel.

Another boating safety tip is to always have a Person Floatation Device or PFD for everyone on board and having a floating cushion is also recommended. In addition, you need to have a proper fire extinguisher and makes sure that your battery is properly charged and the bilge pump works properly.

In addition, proper boating safety also means knowing how to deal with variables that are beyond your control such as inclement weather, and in case you are confronted with a thunderhead, there is no sense in trying to outrun the thunderhead; rather, changing course to a ninety degree angle from the storm?s direction is a better approach. And, when the storm hits you makes sure that you have stowed away all loose gear and point the bow of the boat at the storm and have the engine powered enough sufficiently to handle the action of the high waves.

Taking all these boating safety into account and with the right precautions taken, there is no reason why you can?t enjoy your boating experience and stay safe and protected as well.

It also protect the boat’s surface from damage by shoes and other pontoon boat accessories being dragged across the surface.
