Judging the top cruise destinations can be tricky. Travel experts sometimes choose to rank top choices in terms of personal preference, instead of most-visited locales. The most popular destinations don’t take too much research to figure out. They’re generally lowest in price – a benefit of travel volume – and widely offered by many companies. You’ll find these destinations are low in price (because of the high travel volume) and are offered by most companies in the business.

It’s probably no surprise that the hands-down winner in the competition is the Caribbean. These small islands situated in the Atlantic are the vacation of choice for those seeking sun, fun, and sand galore. Either concentrate longer time on a few islands, or take a lengthier trip that explores the whole region.

Another top destination is the gorgeous expanse of Alaska. This cruise is very popular, what with the exciting activities available to those who embark. Perhaps dog sledding is up your alley, or skiing, helicopter rides, and glacier excursions.

Hawaiian cruises are another popular option for aspiring cruisers. Another tropical locale, it offers all the sun and sand of the Caribbean, with the added benefit of some of the most striking natural scenery in the world. Calling all surfers: Hawaii is you ideal vacation destination! Shoppers will find Hawaii a shopping mecca! For hikers, you can always take a jaunt up to one of Hawaii’s active volcanoes.

Warm weather destinations are tops with most cruisers, if the numbers of cruisers to The Bahamas is any indication. Beautiful beaches, parasailing, and outdoor activities aplenty.

Finally, Mexico is a popular and affordable option for cruisers. Mexico has many various coastal destinations for cruisers, including Cabo San Lucas and Acapulco. Depending on how old you are and the types of activities that interest you, some of the cities will be more appealing to you than will be others. Do some Internet research or consult a travel agent to determine which Mexican itinerary would suit you the best.

Fishing bait from fishing shops can really make going carp fishing an expensive passion! Many anglers are now so conditioned to using readymade baits that they have never seriously considered the huge advantages of making very unique baits for themselves, but they will catch as many if not higher numbers of fish than commercial baits. The fact that homemade bait will cost you a fraction of the cost of readymade baits and over the days and weeks shocking savings can be achieved with no less fish (in fact quite the opposite!)

In fact when you have made your homemade baits despite any mistakes you might make, well over 80 percent of your recipes will catch fish and equal results on readymades with ease. The fact they will be fresh and new is a giant factor in this too. New baits will arouse far less care and suspicion for most fish as they have never even been hooked on your new bait before. One of the great things about homemade baits is that they can keep you well ahead of the fish and fellow anglers who always follow the crowd using readymades, giving you even better consistent catches and more big fish!

Now I’m not saying that you will produce a wonder bait which fish simply jump straight into your net and beg for! Even with the very best baits, all the usual skills of fish location, bait application and skilfully playing your big fish are still required. But on your own homemade baits, the rewards and joys of catching your personal life time best fish on your personal secret bait formula is just incredible. This is why it is so important to exploit the massive fish catching factor of making your baits very unique.

This is a point lost on most readymade bait users! The great edge of bait is being different to ones fish wary of already as a result of previous hooking and captures on it. So make your baits as unique as possible as frequently as you think your results indicate you may need to.

Homemade baits often succeed far longer than many readymade baits purely because you are the only one using that particular bait! Baits for carp are often termed attractor baits or food baits depending on their nutritional value to the fish biologically speaking. High flavour levels and high concentrations if used are sometimes an indicator of a bait being more of an instant attractor type of bait much more than a food or nutritionally stimulating oriented bait.

It might sound hard, but making baits that really work effectively is easy, and your baits do not need to be perfect like commercially produced machine rolled round or barrel shaped boilies or pellets shapes etc. There are obviously very many methods of making baits and you do not need to follow conventional steps at all, in fact there are many steps you can leave out completely. This makes things very much easier, saves hours of time and take the least effort possible!

You do not have to make individual baits in round shapes. Why not roll out a bait paste made of eggs, liquid additives and dry powders made into a dough and simply cut this into little odd shaped pieces? You could pop these into a pan of boiling water for about a minute or so to make boilies.

Making homemade bait is as hard as finding a bowl a mixing spoon or knife, a few eggs and some flours or other dry ingredients. Many flours about the house will bind to form a bait, from semolina and soya to maize and corn flour, and dried rice flour. For example, crack 5 or 6 eggs into a bowl and whisk them adding any flavouring or liquids additives you might choose, like ketchup or a flavoring from the baking aisle of your local store. Take 8 ounces of semolina and the same of soya flour and slowly add to your eggs until a dough the feel of putty is made. It is very easy and quick and with practice you can do this at lightening speed!

When your dough is ready you can use it immediately, or put it labelled plastic bags for later use. Store baits in the fridge or freeze them. It is best to make a note of the ingredients and levels in each individual bait mix. To make around a kilogram of bait it takes about 6 eggs with your dry powders. But this is a very rough guide and every mix can vary widely depending on ingredients, their solubility etc.

I understand value like anyone else so making homemade bait for 3 pounds as opposed to buying it for 12 pounds makes great economic sense. This is startling especially when you think of the saving on 10 or 20 kilograms of homemade baits compared to commercially produced readymade ones. The saving can be in the region of 80 or 90 pounds for just 10 kilograms of bait. You will have been using many kilograms in a season so figure your savings on homemade bait, it could easily total you not hundreds but thousands of pounds so easily saved!

If having a different bait can produce such a difference in results you may as well have the goal of being as innovative as possible with yours as you create new versions for those big fish you dream of catching. The spooky thing about new baits on a water is that they very often produce the biggest most sought after fish within a short space of fishing time because they are fresh and new. Now this is as great a motive as anyone needs to take up bait making and is the icing on the cake. You can use simple forms of bait mentioned here, but you will discover that with successful baits comes the excitement of making more creative ones, and bait making can be extremely exciting, even an integral addictive part of your fishing, as you thirst for more information!

Saving yourself the cost of expensive bait is one of the most important factors in fishing success for many carp fishermen. It can take quantities of expensive readymade bait to achieve great results and if you have a way of making this very quickly and very cheaply then you can save yourself untold fortunes and catch as many if not more fish than on readymade baits. Once you have a few basic bits of information on making baits you are free to create unique economical baits for big fish for years to come and save yourself a real fortune!

For the more technically minded fisherman, carp do not get their energy needs from carbohydrates but mostly protein and also fats and oils in their natural diet. Being aquatic they are extremely well adapted to extract far more energy from protein foods than humans on land. The very basic protein requirements of carp are extremely significant in terms of making effective baits because these are composed of basic building blocks called amino acids, some of which carp essentially need to consume in order to survive.

There are around 10 basic essential amino acids that carp need although there are a few others, but let’s keep things as simple as possible for now. These include: lysine, methionine, arginine, phenylalanine, valine, tryptophan, leucine, isoleucine, histidine and threonine. Carp eat foods containing these amino acids because they are essential. Using almost anything that a fish basically needs to survive can give you the edge you need to get bites although exploiting fish nutritional needs are not the only way to get bites; in fact, far from it!

Our bodies and carp bodies have evolved and adapted to extract energy in the most efficient ways from food found in our natural environments. With carp we can simulate or even boost the natural attraction and stimulation of substances found in their natural foods in our baits. The range of ingredients, extracts, liquid attractors, flavors etc we can use to exploit carp natural food detection senses is phenomenal and ensures we can always make unique homemade baits!

The fuss made about protein carp baits is fair because exploiting dietary essential, particularly highly stimulatory ones such as amino acids is very significant for good results. But just because amino acids are popularly exploited by using protein ingredients does not mean you have to use protein ingredients at all in our baits, and there are very many other angles and approaches to take which are very economical indeed and even wheat, rice or corn flour based baits made with some know-how work a treat! All you need to do is manipulate and exploit any of a range of attractor and stimulator substances, many of which you can add by way of proprietary liquid dips and soaks etc.

But protein based baits are not strictly necessary to get bites of course and a multitude of baits including those based on carbohydrates like wheat flour or corn flour will still catch very well indeed providing they are altered to keep them in effect new and different to previous baits. Many of the most economical bait recipes based on carbohydrate ingredients have consistently caught big fish for decades despite arguments raging over quality food versus crap baits and other theories. If you keep changing your attractors even just by using alternative proprietary flavor dips you can always keep ahead of your fish on any particular fishery; just remember to exploit what stimulates fish naturally and avoid over-dosing with solvent based flavours unless you are fishing single bait style.

So many carp fisheries are over-stocked that the fish need to eat your bait and treat it as natural food. As many carp anglers know well, possibly the greatest edge is to be different and so you can fish with confidence against any well-used readymade commercial bait knowing your unique bait has a great edge of being different and unique. This is one great motivator for me to make my own extremely economical and productive homemade carp baits rather than spend 10 pounds or 20 Dollars on a bag of readymade bait that others are already using!

You might wish to use things like bird foods which can be used both as binders and cheap but nutritional ingredients and just add eggs for example to help bind and can boost your bait protein and nutrition considerably despite carp digestion limiting effects in low temperatures especially. Bait making does not need to be rocket science and the simplest and cheapest of bait recipes catch big fish regularly for decades if fished well. Although carp love proteins for there amino acids particularly, stimulatory and attractive substances are so varied that you will never be short of a new effective homemade bait or alternative potent and unique readymade bait dip; all you need is quality know-how…

Want to discover the beauty of exotic island locations such as Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, Florida, Bahamas, and Greece Sailing is a great way to discover the beauties of several locations such as the Caribbean, Hawaii, Bahamas, and many other archipelagos? There are a few ways you can sail away. You can hire a boat with no captain, crew, or cook. This is called a bareboat. On a bareboat the vacationers do all the cooking, rowing, and navigation. A better option is to hire a captain if you want to sail on a bareboat. That way you have good navigation and someone to provide you with local legend and lore.

There are many companies which provide sailing vacation packages. The most important component of a sailing vacation package is the boat, also known as the transport vehicle. The transport vehicle can be anything from a bareboat with a skipper, to a schooner, or yacht. A lot of it depends on the number of people sailing.

When a big group of people are going, it is a good idea to hire a catamaran. Catamarans have a motorized launch and can accommodate a large number of people. Other modes of transportation include trimarans, which is a more spacious and advanced version of a catamaran. Most ports also offer local transport like schooner, gullets, or caiquies. It all depends on where you go.

Sailing vacation packages come with a variety of amenities. Most packages offer food and drink at a minimum. Large catamarans may have a kitchen on board. Accessories for use during your sailing adventure may also be provided, such as binoculars, scuba and snorkeling equipment, live music, and even photography. Sailing adventures open to children often provide the kids with water toys.

Sailing vacation packages that include tie-ups with resorts are known as stay-sail vacations. Nighttime is spent in hotels, while sailing goes on during the day. Resort or hotels of a stay and stay vacation depend on the budget.

The number of days sailing, onboard amenities, and hotel accommodations are all factors in the price of sailing vacation packages. As always, quality and service affect price. Destination also plays a role in the price of any sailing vacation package.

Sailing, what a great way to enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean Islands, Hawaiian Islands, Bahamas, Florida, Greece, and a variety of other exotic and beautiful locations. Otherwise, people on the bareboat do the cooking, navigating, and rowing. It’s a little bit of work!

On the other hand, there are plenty of companies that provide vacation packages for those who want to go sailing. The most important thing to consider on a sailing vacation package is the boat. You may end up on a bareboat with a skipper, or a huge yacht with other sailing vacationers.

Price of sailing vacations vary depending on the number of days at sea, what type of transport will be taken, and the quality of the hotel or resort in which you will be staying on a stay-sail vacation package. All packages depend on the number of days of the sailing and the facilities that will be taken. It also depends on the kind of hotel and its service in a stay-sail vacation package. Remember, your choice of destination play a huge role in determining the final price of your sailing vacation package.

Who hasn’t dreamed of vacationing on a yacht? Spending lazy days cruising between islands, swimming in warm, turquoise water, and having your every need catered to. It doesn’t have to be just a dream – there are ways to make it a quite affordable reality.

Here are 8 ways that can help you save a bit of money and still have that perfect vacation:

1. Travel with a group of friends/family. It’s always less expensive to share the costs with a group. As an example, I found a crewed sailing yacht in Italy for $9,800/week that sleeps 12 – that breaks down to $816/person. Or how about a skippered boat in the British Virgin Islands for $4,895 that sleeps 6-8? That comes out to $611 – $815/person.

2. Discounts and rebates. Thanks to the current economic situation, many charter companies and boat owners have lowered their rates, and new discounts are being offered all the time. To stay on top of the latest deals, sign up for newsletters and email alerts from yachting magazines, charter companies and yachting websites.

3. Negotiate the price. Again, thanks to the less than stellar economic climate, prices are not set in stone, even if you charter through a company. Also ask about the hidden or extra costs – can they be included in the listing price?

4. Getting to your destination. If you’re chartering through a company, ask them if they offer airfare discounts. Many of the larger charter companies can negotiate lower prices on airlines flying to their charter base than what you are able to find online.

5. Look for last minute deals. Again, signing up for newsletters and setting up Google alerts are great ways to find out about them. There are even entire websites devoted to last minute yacht charters, so do a bit of browsing as well.

6. Go slightly off-season when the weather is still nice but the crowds are lighter and there are more deals available. Late September/early October in the Mediterranean and April-June in the Caribbean are good times to go.

7. Avoid spending the first night in a hotel – instead ask for an “evening boarding” or “early boarding”, which allows to you spend the night before your charter start date on the yacht. There is sometimes a fee associated with this, but it’s usually less than a hotel room, and you only have to unpack once.

8. If you own a boat yourself, check out “boat swapping”. This fairly new way of vacationing is like a home exchange but with boats – a great affordable way to see faraway oceans while not spending a fortune. If you don’t own a boat but are an experienced sailor (you’ll need documents to prove it), see if you can swap your home for someone’s boat.

Chartering a private yacht for a vacation may sound like something only the rich and famous can do, but the truth is that it can be quite affordable, in fact even less expensive than staying in a hotel for a week.

Below are 8 money-saving tips to help make your dream vacation happen:

1. Share the expenses. Traveling with a group is always less expensive. If you can get a group of 8-10 friends together, you can end up paying as little as $800/person for a week on a really nice yacht in the Mediterranean or Caribbean.

2. Take advantage of the weak economy. Many boat owners and charter companies are faced with fewer bookings and are consequently cutting rates and running specials. One way to stay up to date with the latest offerings is to sign up for newsletters from charter companies, magazines and other publications from the part of the world you are interested in.

3. Negotiate the price. Again, thanks to the less than stellar economic climate, prices are not set in stone, even if you charter through a company. Also ask about the hidden or extra costs – can they be included in the listing price?

4. Save on airfare. Many charter companies have special deals with airlines flying to their charter base – make sure to ask before booking anything.

5. Look for last minute deals. Again, signing up for newsletters and setting up Google alerts are great ways to find out about them. There are even entire websites devoted to last minute yacht charters, so do a bit of browsing as well.

6. Travel during shoulder season (in between high and off season). This is the best time to travel: the weather will still be nice, but the crowds are gone, and prices on everything will have gone down. If you’re going to the Mediterranean, consider traveling in September or early October. For the Caribbean, late April to mid-June is the best time.

7. Sleep on board the night before your start date. Instead of spending the first night in a hotel on or close to the charter base, ask if “early boarding” or “evening boarding” is available. Sometimes you will have to pay a fee for this, but it’s less than a hotel, and it saves you the hassle of having to move your stuff from the hotel to the yacht.

8. Boat swapping. If you’re a boat owner, consider swapping boats with someone else. It works just like a home exchange, but with boats, and is a great way to be able to sail exotic waters without spending a fortune. If you are an accomplished boater but don’t own a boat, you can always ask if someone is interested in exchanging their boat for your home for a week.

Cheap cruise tickets

If you though finding cheap cruise tickets was a daunting task, think again. It’s not as hard as you think to find discounted cruises, especially if you search online. Because there is a service fee involved, your nearest travel agent is the last place you should visit to find cheap cruise tickets.

Here are some steps to follow when looking for cheap cruise tickets.

1. Firstly, you need to understand cruise lines lingo, like guaranteed staterooms, singles supplement and run-of-the-ship

2. Secondly, in order to save money, you need to book via cruise booking sites, which will charge you an even lower rate, compared to booking through main cruise lines site.

3. For the best discounts, check with large vacation suppliers, or cruise booking sites, they are directly linked to the cruise lines’ inventory database. They also receive the latest stateroom information, which means they know in advance about cabin inventory deals, and can pass them directly on to you. This is the best place to get cruise deals.

4. Once you understand what the online suppliers have to offer, you may avail discounts that range from anything between 20-60% depending on the season, itinerary, and cruise ship itself.

Finding the right cruise:

5. Always look out for inaugural cruises, just like any company introducing a new brand in the market, cruise lines offer huge discounts for inaugural cruises, because they rely heavily on word of mouth. This form of ‘advertising’ is far more valuable than media promotions. And most cruise lines recover many times the amount that they lose on inaugural discounts.

6. Because not all cruise destinations are uniformly in demand in all seasons, most of them operate cruises all year. What happens then is that cruise lines send ships from one area to another to meet the demand.

So as the Caribbean slows down in late spring and summer, the European cruises begin to reach their peak season, and ships from the Caribbean are sent to European and Mediterranean ports.

Still not sure why we are telling you this, well this is where you come in. Cruise lines would rather charge unbelievably low prices to fill these ships than to leave them empty as they travel across the world. They have to pay staff anyway and at the same time have them take care of you in luxury and style, makes perfect sense!

Be on the lookout for last-minute specials online. Many travel suppliers offer special search tools and last-minute email alerts so you can book your last-minute cruise with very little effort. Thus you won’t be disappointed when you call the travel agency only to find out the last cabin was just booked by a couple going on there honeymoon and will be doing beach vacation photos, enjoying the fun.

If you’re planning a cruise vacation, there are eight key questions you need to ask yourself before you even begin to book. Keep reading to learn what these eight questions are and how to research and book the best cruise vacation for you.

1. Who’s Going?

Depending on the age of your travelers and whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a family fun free-for-all is going to have a defining impact on the type of cruise you choose.

By determining well in advance who will be going, you can really narrow down the choices.

2. What’s Your Budget?

Setting a budget in advance will help you plan how much you spend and the type of cruise vacation that you can afford. A typical cruise vacation costs about $100-$300 per day per person, excluding airfare.

Booking early, booking last minute or being willing to take an inside cabin are ways you can save money on your cruise. Inside cabins do not have a window view of the ocean.

3. How Much Time do You Have?

Knowing how much vacation you have will help you narrow down your cruise choices. For example, if you only have 5 vacation days available, you won’t be indulging in that 3-week adventure up the coast of East Africa.

Typically, a week’s vacation allows for a solid 5-7 day cruise in the Caribbean. It can also work depending where you are in North America, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and even the South Pacific.

4. When Do You Want to Travel?

Having a rough idea of when you want to go will help you focus on specific sailing times and even destinations. For example, Alaska cruises only operate during the five summer months.

5. Where Do You Want to Go?

From Africa to the Caribbean to the South Pacific, cruises travel all over the world. If you know, for example, you want to explore the cities of the Mediterranean, you’ll be able to focus your search on Mediterranean cruises.

6. What Activities Do You Like?

For every taste, there’s a cruise line that caters to it. From wine tasters to extreme athletes, there are cruises designed specifically for you – you just have to determine your interest.

7. Do You Like Structure?

Some cruise ships have set dining times, ranging from as early as 6:00 p.m. to as late as 9:00 p.m. Others offer freestyle service which allows you to eat when you please.

8. Do You Enjoy Formal Wear?

Before you book a luxury cruise that offers formal dining every night, ask yourself if you’re ready to pack your tuxedo. Whether you want to dress up for dinner every night, just a few nights or not at all, there’s a cruise for you. Just be sure to research your options before you purchase.

One item that every boat owner is very familiar with is boat engines. We rely on them to get a sailboat away from the dock, the yacht across the sea, or the humble dinghy out to the best fishing area. But we seldom consider the dangers of boat engines. If you are on a budget when you buy your boat, you might be tempted to buy second-hand boat engines. Which is a great way to save money, but you should inspect the boat engines carefully before committing your wallet. Make sure that there is no rust or dents that could cause leaks or other potential problems down the road. The propellers should be in good condition, not bent or dented or cracked. Ask about the history of the boat engines that you are considering. If they have been run aground or banged into, it’s better to give it a miss. Look for a top-notch engine instead.

When using a motorized watercraft you need to be careful. Children should never sit within reach of boat engines. They have a natural curiosity that might lead them to reach into the water and try to touch the propellers, resulting in a very tragic accident. Although it is common sense to keep limbs away from moving parts of boat engines, there are an alarming number of such accidents every year, so it pays to take precautions. Another danger when operating a boat involves ropes and cords. Make sure all lines are inside the boat. Even a line that hangs in the water at the prow of the boat could cause problems if it is sucked under the boat and catches in the propellers. Double checking before leaving the dock is the best way to avoid this problem. Children can be put to work coiling the lines inside the boat to occupy them and to keep things neat.

Anytime you have an accident in a boat, the engine should be checked over. In incidents where there has been a crash or the boat has run aground, the boat engines should be checked and repaired if necessary. Unnoticed cracks could lead to fuel leakage and a potential fire or explosion, at worst. The best case scenario, you won’t have any major problems, but will run out of fuel in the middle of the lake, which isn’t that fun, either! Speaking of fuel, it is worth mentioning that it’s essential to bring extra fuel with you. Even if you are certain you have enough to get there and back twice, bring extra. A little backup never hurt anyone and it could save you from an embarrassing incident with the Coast Guard or a cold night spent drifting at sea.
